Assistant Director of Development

Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Development works closely with the Director of Development and CEO to continue building and executing a donor-centered fund development strategy including but not limited to, annual fund, special events, corporate and foundation relations, major gifts and campaign, and stewardship of donors. As a key member of the development team, the Assistant Director of Development is instrumental in increasing the agency's development capacity and reaching its fundraising goals.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare the Director of Development and CEO for solicitation activities, and partner with them on planning and implementation.
  • Help to create and nurture a culture of philanthropy.
  • Assist in creating and implementing a diversified stream of fundraising channels.
  • Participate in solicitations - from individuals, foundations and corporations.
  • Build and sustain excellent relationships at multiple levels within the organization and external constituencies.
  • Help to develop effective strategies for identifying, engaging and soliciting donors including the planning, execution and follow up of all development related events.
  • Partner with colleagues across the organization in identifying fundraising strategies.
  • Work with the Development Director and CEO to expand the individual donor base and ensure accurate donor records and appropriate documentation and stewardship.
  • Leverage best practices to implement data- and analysis-driven metrics to drive development strategies and decisions.
  • Prepare fundraising reports, meeting minutes and other written materials.
  • Maintain a small portfolio of donors.
  • Stand in for the Director of Development when necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 3-5 years' experience in development
  • Demonstrated success in a nonprofit fundraising.
  • Experience in donor cultivation and development efforts including fundraising events.
  • Demonstrated initiative, creativity, flexibility, and openness to change.
  • Strong strategic thinking, problem solving, and organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and data analysis skills.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to successfully convey the organization's mission and work to external audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience utilizing a donor management system.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with staff at all levels of the agency as well as external partners.
